Transport to and from Istanbul Atatürk Airport


From Arrivals Terminal the railway station is just a few minutes far away walking. The Metro runs from Istanbul airport from 6a.m. to 11p.m and it departs every 20 minutes. To go to the city center take the Metro to Zeytinburnu and then change to take the tram to go to Istanbul Old City.

Make sure you have bought the correct fare and ticket and remember that you’ll need Turkish liras to pay fares.

If you are travelling with a lot of luggage, it’s better to take another transportation. Metro and Tram use to be crowd.


From the airport, the Metro travels from Yenikapı to Istanbul Atatürk Airport. In concrete, stops at the following stations: Yenikapı, Aksaray, Emniyet - Fatih, Topkapi - Ulubatli, Bayrampasa - Maltepe, Sagmalcilar, Kartaltepe - Kocatepe, Esenler Otogar, Terazidere, Davutpasa - YTU, Merter, Zeytinburnu, Bakirkoy - Incirli, Bahcelievler, Atakoy - Sirinevler, Yenibosna, DTM Istanbul Fuar Merkezi, Ataturk Airport


Airport Bus

From Istanbul Atatürk airport there are buses which goes to Taksim Square (one of the most modern areas in Istanbul) and also, buses goes from Sabiha Gökçen to the ferry terminal (Kadikoy) where you can take the boat to Eminönü and catch the tram to your destination.


Transportation by sea

Istanbul Atatürk airport is really close to the sea and transportation through the Sea of Marmara to other localities is a good and fast option. There are sea buses, ferry boats, ships and cruise lines which offers services to many places. As a recommendation, and according to your destination, try to program which transportation suits better to your travel.



From Atatürk airport there are different kinds of buses: City Buses which go to the city center of Istanbul; Intercity Buses which connects with bus terminals of Büyük Otogar, Emniyet Garajı and Harem Otogar to connect with other cities, areas and regions around Istanbul and Turkey in general. From Büyük Otogar you can arrive to the city center of Istanbul, Sultanahmet, in about 30 minutes by taking TL6.



Taxi drivers wait outside both terminals. To take a taxi is a good option if you have a lot of luggage and also is one of the fastest methods of transportation to leave the airport but traffic sometimes can be very heavy during the rush hours.

Taxis provide service 24/7 and should have a Taximeter. If it doesn’t have one, before departing you should agree with the taxi driver the obligated fare to pay.
